Heaven received an angel Sunday, June 3, 2012, when Basil Lee Barnes, 76, passed away in Cape Girardeau, with his family by his side.

He was born Jan. 18, 1936, in West Frankfort, Ill., to Virgil and Golda Barnes, and was the second oldest of five children. He attended Frankfort Community High School.

Basil was known in Cape Girardeau as "Mr. B." He owned Mr. B's restaurants many years. You would always hear him say, "Appreciate it!" Mr. B always had a smile on his face and was laughing.

He enjoyed building rooms onto our houses. He and son Justin would always have a project to add on to the house. This was great quality time for him and Justin.

Basil worked hard all his life, but family was very important to him. He was a member of the Masons in Cape Girardeau and the Elks Lodge.
