EAST PRAIRIE - Basil Alexander Zilafro, Jr., 72, of East Prairie, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 2, 1920, in East Prairie, to Basil A. and Mattie T. Jones Zilafro.
On July 18, 1946, he married Beachel L. Jones, who preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. Zilafro and Ronald D. Zilafro, both of Anderson, Ind.; one daughter, Dollrette Engle of Bluejacket, Okla.; one sister Dorothy Diamond of Olivett, and four grandchildren.
Zilafro was a life-long resident of Mississippi County. He retired as an auto mechanic from Pope Motors in East Prairie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War Two, and was a charter member of the Charleston Veterans of Foreign Wars. Zilafro was of the Catholic faith.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services will be held Monday, at 11 a.m., in the Shelby Funeral Chapel, with Father James Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the East Prairie Memorial Park.
