Barbara Port, 81, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Nov. 11, 1932, in St. Louis, daughter of Stark O. and Marian W. Genuit.
Barbara graduated from Washington University with a master's degree in social work. She was a social worker for a private adoption agency in Illinois and Child Protection and Disability Determination in Southeast Missouri. Barbara was a lifelong Presbyterian and was active in her church, both locally and at the national level.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Port of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Mark) Mueth of St. Charles, Missouri; a son, William S. (Linda) Port of St. Louis; granddaughters, Emily Kovach of O'Fallon, Missouri, and Marcella Mueth of Columbia, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Jake, Eathan and Kallie Kovach of O'Fallon.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service time June 28 at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to Chateau Girardeau Foundation, First Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice.
