Barbara Ellen Blank, 73, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Cape Girardeau to Charles Paul and Gladys Whitticre Blank. Barb graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School and began her career with Missouri Utilities Co., which later became known as AmerenUE, for over 40 years, retiring November 1999. ...

Barbara Ellen Blank, 73, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Cape Girardeau to Charles Paul and Gladys Whitticre Blank.

Barb graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School and began her career with Missouri Utilities Co., which later became known as AmerenUE, for over 40 years, retiring November 1999. She was a member of the Service Club of AmerenUE. Employees greatly enjoyed when she would bring a cake she decorated to birthdays and special events.

She was baptized at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include a brother, William Blank of Cape Girardeau; nieces, Deena Ring of Cape Girardeau and Nancy (Fred) Harms of Pekin, Ill.; nephews, Scott (Lisa) Blank of Cape Girardeau and Jim (Jessie) Gunn of Rolla, Mo.; lifelong friend Elaine Shirrell of Cape Girardeau; and sister-in-law Gaye Y. Blank of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother and an infant son.

Visitation will be from 1 until time of service today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
