Avis I. Simms Fields, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born May 7, 1912, in Vanduser, Mo., to Elvis and Ella Campbell Blanchard.
She first married Cornelius Simms July 12, 1930, at Ancell. He passed away Nov. 20, 1957. She then married Verlie Fields Oct. 27, 1960, at Hammond, Ind. He passed away April 24, 1971.
She was a clerk at a grocery store. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She moved from Missouri to Hammond, where she lived and worked for 30 years, returning to Cape Girardeau in the early 1980s.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Stella Simms of Belleville, Ill.; two sisters, Lucy Reynolds of Cape Girardeau and Margaret Gilliland of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Norval Blanchard of Hoopeston, Ill.; two grandchildren, Dean Simms and wife Laurie of Crown Point, Ind., Debbie Hamilton and husband Mark of Fairview Heights, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Micah and Caitlin Simms, and Seth, Megan, Samuel and Joey Hamilton.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel, 1001 N. Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Pringle officiating. Interment will be in Friends Hill cemetery at Oran, Mo.
