ORAN, Mo. -- Audrey Hirschowitz, 98, of Oran passed away peacefully at 4:58 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was the only child of Sam and Sarah Kaplan of St. Charles, Missouri.
Audrey attended and received a degree in business from Lindenwood University in St. Charles. After receiving her degree, she met and married Louis "Louie" Hirschowitz. They married Feb. 16, 1944, and he preceded her in death March 31, 2007.
She and Louie owned and operated a mercantile in Oran for many, many years.
Audrey was a world traveler and an avid dog lover. She was also a long-standing member of Morley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5368 and a member of the Eastern Stars Chapter 137 for 70-plus years.
She will be sadly missed by her family and many loving friends, especially her Uncle Sid Yawitz of St. Louis and her neighbors Ray and Brenda Cook and the whole Cook family who loved her so.
She is survived by an uncle, Sid Yawitz of St. Louis; three nieces, Harriet Surochy of Clearwater, Florida, Jane Menz of Sikeston, Missouri, and Gilda Whitaker of Rochester, Michigan; and many cousins.
There will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. today. Audrey will be laid to rest next to her husband at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery in St. Louis.
Rindskopf-Roth Funeral Chapel in St. Louis is handling the services.
