ARVEL THOMPSON

CAMPBELL, Mo. -- Funeral for Arvel Allen "Butter" Thompson of Campbell was held Monday at Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell. The Rev. Darrell Woods officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Thompson, 86, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark.

He was born April 6, 1915, at Holcomb, Mo., son of Mack Marion and Bertha Fox Thompson. He and Gail Virginia Northington were married Aug. 8, 1934, at Holcomb. She died Nov. 11, 2000.

Thompson moved to New Madrid County in 1963 from north Dunklin County. He farmed in the Holcomb area.

He was a member of several area saddle clubs.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Foster of Campbell; a son, Burl Thompson of Malden, Mo.; a brother, Lynn Thompson of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Fern Riley of New Madrid, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, seven brothers, a sister, and a grandson.
