Arthur Anton Horky, 96, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
Art was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Omaha, Neb., son of Mary Barbara Kremlacek and Louis B. Horky. He married Arlene Marie Johannes May 10, 1941. She preceded him in death in April 1995.
In 1941 Art served in the Army Signal Corps in World War II and was at Omaha Beach.
Art and Arlene moved to Cape Girardeau in 1950 where he worked for Southwestern Bell until 1979. He was a member of VFW and Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, bowling, fishing and square dancing. In 1995 Art began spending summers in Boulder, Colo., with his daughter.
He played on a softball team until the age of 93. He also participated in the Bolder Boulder 10K and received gold medals in his age division of 90 and 91.
Survivors include two sons, Bradford Horky of San Antonio, Craig Horky of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Donna Post of Boulder; a sister, Stacia Shannon of McCook, Neb.; and three grandchildren, Adam Horky, Whitney Horky, and Jessica Post.
There will be no service.
