ARTHUR HOBBS

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Arthur H. Hobbs, 60, of Sikeston died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 4, 1940, in Odessa, Mo., son of Harvey William and Edna Belle Lale Hobbs.

He attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., where he graduated in 1963 with a degree in accounting. He was a certified public accountant and was a partner with Spitzmiller, Hobbs, Bridger C.P.A.s for 35 years.

He was a former officer of the Southeast Missouri C.P.A.'s Association and had been a member of the National Association of C.P.A.s. He was a member and former chairman of the Swampeast Missouri Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and also served as their treasurer for 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Sikeston Lions Club and was serving as second vice president at the time of his death. He was a past board member of the Sikeston Housing Authority and also had been a former treasurer and current board member of the House of Refuge for Abused and Battered Women and Children in Scott and New Madrid counties. He also attended First Baptist Church in Sikeston.

He and Judy Beggs were married Jan. 3, 1999, in Sikeston.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Katie Weems of Sikeston and Ashley Lipke of Jackson, Mo.; one stepson, Donald Beggs II of Sikeston; two stepdaughters, Vicki Weaver of Germantown, Tenn., and Jennifer Vescovo of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Patricia Trainer of Wellington, Mo., and Vivian Heuiser of Higginsville, Mo.; and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Sikeston, with Dr. Jim Guffie officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
