Arnold Kaempfe

ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Arnold M. F. "Shorty" Kaempfe, 87, of Altenburg died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 3, 1920, at Crosstown, Mo., son of Edmund "Butch" and Minna Verseman Kaempfe. He and Leona E. Weber were married June 20, 1948.

Kaempfe was a construction worker and boiler operator. He was a member, elder and trustee of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, American Legion Post 133, proud member of International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers Local 513 for over 50 years, alderman of Altenburg Town Board, charter member and past president of Altenburg Lions Club, Perry County Lutheran Historical Society, River Hills Antique Tractor Club, active volunteer in Altenburg community, and loved to garden.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and DeVon Lark of St. Paul, Minn., Martha Kaempfe and Dayvid Schultz of Chicago; five brothers, Milton, Lester, Robert and Lloyd Kaempfe of St. Louis, Kenneth Kaempfe of Perryville, Mo.; a sister, Irma Hacker of Perryville; four grandchildren, Peter (Jennifer) Lark, Matthew Lark, Christina Lark, Anna Kaempfe Schultz (Antonio Herrera); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Ilmer, Erwin and Vernon.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and at Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. The Revs. Steven Dressler and Walter Patzwitz will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside service provided by American Legion Post 133.
