ANTON BIRK

JACKSON -- Anton A. Birk, 82, of Jackson died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 16, 1914, at Tilsit, son of Otto and Frieda Lange Birk. He and Alene Neumeyer were married Sept. 13, 1940. She died June 24, 1981. She later married Glenora Lacey Hoffman Nov. 16, 1985. She died Jan. 1, 1996.

Birk farmed all his life in the Tilsit area. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Tilsit and held several offices.

He was a former member of Farm Bureau Board, Cape County Shipping Association, 4-H leader at Tilsit, Tilsit School Board, Gordonville Mutual Insurance Board, and REA Board covering Scott, New Madrid and Mississippi counties.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Wendel of Whitewater, Cheryl Crouch of Jackson, Martha Nothdurft of Delta; a stepson, John Hoffman of Marble Hill; a stepdaughter, Sondra Smith of Springfield; a brother, Edwin Birk of Gordonville; a sister, Viola Sides of Jackson; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, son and two brothers.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Church. The Rev. Don Reder will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.
