Anne Luby Duncan, 98, left this life peacefully Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau. Anne was born March 31, 1918, in Cairo, Illinois, to John and Anna Luby. She was married to William "Bill" Duncan. They resided in Chicago and enjoyed many years together until his death in 1978...

Anne Luby Duncan, 98, left this life peacefully Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

Anne was born March 31, 1918, in Cairo, Illinois, to John and Anna Luby. She was married to William "Bill" Duncan. They resided in Chicago and enjoyed many years together until his death in 1978.

Anne loved her years in Chicago and enjoyed her career working as head of the accounting department at the prestigious law firm of Chapman and Cutler. She loved her work and was employed there for over 30 years until her retirement in 1985.

She was an intelligent and fun-loving, dignified woman, who in her spare time enjoyed dining out with friends, laughing and living in the city. She will be remembered for her quick sense of humor and her love of life, friends and family.

She was an active member of Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. Her faith was very important to her.

Anne is survived by her nephews, John (Donette) Van Cleve and Tom Van Cleve (Bruce Stahly); and her niece, Joan Van Cleve (Rick) Ball. She also is survived by her nephews, Michael Luby and Jeffrey (Linda) Luby. She has several great-nieces and -nephews, and was especially close to Eric and Angela Van Cleve, Aaron Ball and Jessica Ball Albers; as well as her close friend, Suzy Shade of Chicago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Duncan; and her siblings, Kathleen, Joe, Ed and Martha.

She had lived with her sister, Martha Van Cleve, in their hometown of Cairo since 2006, before entering Chateau Girardeau.

A memorial Mass for Anne Duncan will be at 2 p.m. May 6 at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.

Anne will be missed by all who knew her.
