Anna Belle Baker, 81 of Jackson died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 28, 1928 near Advance, Mo., the daughter of Charles Cambron "Charlie" and Gertie Ann Morris McClain. She and James C. Baker were married Sept. 5, 1947, at the General Baptist Church Parsonage in Arbor, Mo.

Mrs. Baker was a graduate of College High. She worked for Superior Electric and Lowenbaum Dress Factory and was caretaker with her husband of General Baptist Camp Allen Youth Camp in Greenville, Mo.

She was a member of First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Ladies Aide Quilting and Women's Ministries. She also served as Sunday school and Bible school teacher, kitchen coordinator, Meals On Wheels coordinator, church van coordinator and nursery workers coordinator.

In addition, Mrs. Baker was a Cub Scout den mother, avid bowler, sports mom, Southeast Missouri basketball booster and loved to swing on her porch swing.

She was a very active Democrat.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Baker of Jackson; two sons, Charles Edward (Sue) Baker of Florissant, MO and Doyle Thomas (Linda) Baker of Chesterfield, Mo.; three daughters, Lana Carole (Paul) Parmenter of Mexico, Mo., Jo Ellen (Tom) Kimbel of Jackson, Gail Marie Baker of St. Louis; two brothers, Orvie McClain of Grafton, Ill., Allen Jerry McClain of San Miguel, Calif.; a sister, Shelby Joyce Miller of Florida; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Milburn McClain; two sisters, Emma Dean Barrett and Palma Evans.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Dean Jaggers officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to First General Baptist Church, 1812 Cape La Croix Road, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
