JACKSON -- Amanda Vasterling Burgfeld, 96, of Jackson, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1993, at Jackson Manor. She was born July 8, 1897, at Tilsit, daughter of F.J. and Martha Bartels Sander. She married Martin Vasterling July 8, 1917. He died Oct. 17, 1934. She and Louis Burgfeld were married March 14, 1942. He died April 5, 1946...

JACKSON -- Amanda Vasterling Burgfeld, 96, of Jackson, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1993, at Jackson Manor.

She was born July 8, 1897, at Tilsit, daughter of F.J. and Martha Bartels Sander. She married Martin Vasterling July 8, 1917. He died Oct. 17, 1934. She and Louis Burgfeld were married March 14, 1942. He died April 5, 1946.

Burgfeld had worked at the former Schade's Cafe in Jackson and the former Ely Walker in Illmo.

She had been a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ since 1917, and was a member of its Lydia Kies Circle, Ladies Quilting Club, and Adult Bible Class.

Survivors include two sons, Earl Vasterling of Roseburg, Ore., Floyd Vasterling of Pekin, Ill.; four daughters, Edna Schumer of Ste. Genevieve, Louise Frank of Cape Girardeau, Elsie Seabaugh of Roseburg, Leta Leadbetter of Jackson; a brother, Wesley Sander of Sikeston; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, four brothers, and three half sisters.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Sam Roethemeyer will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
