Alvin E. Ludwig, 90, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Fruitland, to Louis and Ida Tuschhoff Ludwig.
Alvin was baptized July 28, 1918, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, and confirmed there April 12, 1931.
He served in the U.S. Army from November 1942 to June 1945, and received a Purple Heart from wounds received in Italy.
He and Luella E. Kassel were married Feb. 15, 1953.
Alvin worked many years as a truck driver at the former Farmers Limestone in Old Appleton, Mo.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and formerly served as a special collector. He was a lifetime member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, DAV and VFW in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Luella of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Olga Ludwig and Lois Wendel of Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Wernold Kassel of Frohna, Mo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Adolph Ludwig; two brothers-in-law, Milbert Kassel and Clinton Wendel; and a sister-in-law, Anna Kassel.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to service time Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion service will be held at 7 Saturday.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
