Alvin H. Landewee, 79, of Jackson passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born May 21, 1938, in Leopold, Missouri, son of Herman Henry and Beatrice Jane Stoverink Landewee.

Alvin was raised in Leopold and was a graduate of Leopold High School. He was a carpenter, working many years in local residential and commercial construction.

He was a 3rd-degree member of Knights of Columbus Bishop Timon Council No. 6405, the 10-Point Club and a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.

He enjoyed woodworking, playing euchre at the K.C. Hall in Jackson, dining out with his brothers and sisters, gardening, canning, hunting, fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals win. But, above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include four children, Cara (Dane) Bowman of Hannibal, Missouri, Rodney (Tonya) Landewee of Jackson, DeAnn Pappageorge of St. Louis and Renee (Eric) Hinkebein of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Kyle and Katie Bowman, Mason Landewee, Trevor and Lauren Pappageorge, Cameron, Preston and Christian Hinkebein; four siblings, Bill (Glenda) Landewee, Paul (Joyce) Landewee, Catherine Engelen of Leopold and Cecilia (Melvin) Glastetter of New Hamburg, Missouri; and his former wife, Marilyn Landewee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Deacon Walter Biri will lead parish prayers at 7 p.m., immediately followed with a rosary, led by the Knights of Columbus.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, with Father John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or School, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
