JACKSON, Mo. -- Alta Mae Green, 89, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Monticello House, where she had lived since February.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by burial in Zion Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville, Mo. The Rev. Lloyd Ray Green will officiate.
Alta was born Oct. 14, 1912, in Allenville, Mo., daughter of William P. and Sloma I. Dona Cook Chapman. She and Herbert Green were married Dec. 24, 1929. Herbert passed away Nov. 12, 1977.
Loving survivors include three sons and four daughters-in-law, Ray and Jean Green of Whitewater, Mo., Loyd "Don" and Marge Green of Park City, Ky., Jerry and Sue Green of Sedgewickville, Mo., and Nelda Green of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Goldie and Donald Darnell of Jackson.
Also surviving is a brother, William Chapman of Whitewater, Mo.; four sisters, Lucille Scholz of Gorham, Ill., Louise Woeltje of Jackson, Gladys Phelps of Overland, Mo., Opal Gast of Whitewater; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Green; and a brother, Alfred Chapman.
Herbert and Alta lived and farmed many years in Daisy, Mo. In 1978, after Herbert's death, Alta moved to Jackson. She was a member of New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy.
