Our mother has gone on to her reward in Heaven: Alma Mae Thomure, 88, of Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Marquand, the daughter of David N. and Flora V. Jones Simmons. She and Rev. Arnold E. Thomure were married on Nov. 13, 1934, in East Prairie, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1993.
Mae Thomure and her husband the Rev. Arnold Thomure moved to Cape Girardeau in 1959. They started a Gospel Assembly Church on Broadway, and later built a church on South Linden Street in Cape Girardeau. Prior to that, they started their ministry with the Lord in Chaffee, building churches in East Prairie and Little Rock, Ark.
She worked by his side in the ministry as a Sunday school teacher, songleader and pianist until her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Janie Mier of Friedheim, Mo., Mazie Rushing of Mayfield, Ky., and Darlene Ferguson of England, Ark.; a son, James U. Thomure of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Vera Moore of Cape Girardeau and Rachel Smith of Little Rock; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Jerry Thomure, a sister, four brothers and two grandsons.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home with the Revs. Bobby Mouser and Ronald Metheney officiating. Burial will be at the Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
