SIKESTON, Mo. — Alma Lee Smith, 82, of Sikeston died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Savannah, Tenn., daughter of Jim and Carrie Carlisle Western. She and James W. Smith Sr. were married Jan. 24, 1950, in Piggott, Ark. He died March 27, 1991.
Smith was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include three sons, James Smith Jr. of Sand Point, Idaho, Jimmy Smith of Sikeston, Steven Smith of Dexter, Mo.; four daughters, Marsha Schnarr of Warrenton, Mo., Donna Newell of Bloomfield, Mo., Mary Williams of Sikeston, Joann Kinser of the home; two sisters, Mable Holmes of Sikeston, Burma Baker of Jackson; two brothers, Jim and Carl Western of Sikeston; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a sister and four brothers.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, with the Rev. Richard Whitman officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery at Dogwood, Mo.
