EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Alfred C. Sturgeon of Poplar Bluff will be held at 1 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. The Rev. Vernon Self will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
Sturgeon, 83, died Thursday, June 20, 1996, at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.
He was born Sept. 5, 1912, at Zalma, son of Howard Issac and Clara Lacy Sturgeon. He first married Helen Bowman, who died in May 1966. He and Wilma B. Maxwell were married June 3, 1967.
Sturgeon was a retired farmer, and member of Little Vine General Baptist Church near Matthews. He had lived in Poplar Bluff 11 months.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Sturgeon of East Prairie; two brothers, Argel Sturgeon of Poplar Bluff, Audrey Sturgeon of Malden; two sisters, Bernice Peck of St. Charles, Velma Arington of Neelyville; three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
