CAIRO, Ill. -- Alex Johnson Jr., affectionately known as "June Bug," 83, of Cairo passed away at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at his home.
He was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Cairo to Alex and Mary Farah Johnson.
He loved the color red, flashlights, radios, dogs, ball caps, riding his bicycle and, most of all, being with his family.
He is survived by his sisters, Rose Nasser and Dorothy Johnson of Cairo; two brothers, Johnny (Rachel) Johnson Sr. of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and George (Kay) Johnson Sr. of Cairo; nieces, Mary Kay Krouskos of Largo, Florida, Carla Bell of Sikeston, Missouri, Pam Hoppe and Julie Mason of Cairo; nephews, John Wayne Guetterman, Jack Guetterman Jr., George John Nasser and George Johnson Jr., all of Cairo, Dr. Johnny Johnson Jr. and Dr. Alex Johnson of Tarpon Springs; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alice Johnson and Sara Guetterman.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Larry Potts officiating. Interment will be at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions can be made to Mighty Rivers Upward Basketball Program, 1000 Poplar St. in Cairo or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
