SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Aletha Emma Varnon, 84, of Scott City, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Parkview Health Care Facility in Bolivar, Mo.
She was born Feb. 9, 1916, at Ancell, Mo., daughter of Otto Walter and Anna Sander Walter. She and William "Bill" Varnon were married. He died Nov. 13, 1959.
She had worked at Carter Carburetor Co. in St. Louis until her retirement. She served in the Army. She was Catholic. She had lived in Morrisville, Mo., for 22 years, moving from St. Louis.
Survivors include four brothers, Charles "Gene" Walter of Morrisville; Alfred Walter of Fruitland, Mo., Lenos Walter of Cape Girardeau, and Henry Walter of Scott City; and two sisters, Dorothy Hamm of Commerce, Mo., and Kathleen Green of Perryville, Mo.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
