Oma "Aleta" Hedge, 94, of Labadie, Mo., formerly of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Bethesda Meadow Nursing Home in Ellisville, Mo.
She was born June 11, 1915, near Burfordville, daughter of Dennis A. and Carrie "Zelma" Helderman. She and Floyd James Hedge were married June 19, 1935. He passed away Feb. 13, 1977.
Aleta worked at a shoe manufacturing company in Illinois. When she and Floyd moved to St. Louis, she worked at Valley Shoe Co. and Knapp-Monarch Co., a small appliance manufacturer. She was a former member of Shaw United Methodist Church in St. Louis and a member of Whitewater United Methodist Church in Whitewater.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Carole (Larry) Balsamo of Labadie; four grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) Huegerich, Michael (Lori) Huegerich, Philip (Cindy) Balsamo, and Theresa (Chris) Meyer; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Maddie, Jack, Ethan, Ayden and Anthony; a sister-in-law; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Balsamo; two sisters, Wanda McElreath and Virginia Askew; and two brothers, Woodrow and Aaron Frank Helderman.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Kuehle officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Whitewater United Methodist Church, 159 Church St., Whitewater, MO 63785, or to the American Diabetes Association.
