SCOTT CITY -- Alena Ann Dyer, 95, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born Feb. 7, 1902, in New Hamburg, daughter of Nicholas and Bertha Grojean Scherer. She and Homer B. Dyer were married Feb. 7, 1922. He died May 27, 1953...

SCOTT CITY -- Alena Ann Dyer, 95, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Feb. 7, 1902, in New Hamburg, daughter of Nicholas and Bertha Grojean Scherer. She and Homer B. Dyer were married Feb. 7, 1922. He died May 27, 1953.

Dyer was a graduate of Fornfelt High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University.

She was a fourth and fifth grade teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School 10 years. She also taught at Schererville School in Kelso.

Dyer was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, its Ladies Sodality, and past president of Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of Do-Bee Extension Club in Cape Girardeau, and past president of Ladies Auxiliary to BLE.

Survivors include three daughters, Viola Wilson of Denver, Colo., Ann Blattel and Margaret Stone of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Charles Scherer of Mays Landing, N.J.; a sister, Rosalie Valente of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, brother, sister, and grandson.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. today. A prayer service will be held at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, with the Rev. Pat Wissman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
