Aleene Ellinger

Aleene Ellinger, 98, of Scott City left our presence but not our hearts Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 20, 1914, in Commerce, Mo., daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Alice Edgeman Hockersmith. She and Edward Frank Ellinger were married Jan. 10, 1934. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1984.

Aleene attended services at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Broadway Methodist. Her favorite activity at the Lutheran Home was distribution of the "bibs" on the dining room table at mealtime. When she was able, she enjoyed going to Branson, Mo., with her daughters and riding the "ducks".

Her personality endeared her to everyone she met. She had many friends wherever she went. She was also an avid Cardinals fan and her favorite player was Yadier Molina.

She is survived by a son, Frank Thomas Ellinger; two daughters, Jane (Bill) McMillan and Mary Carroll; 13 grandchildren, Cindy (Don) Crews, Lisa (Mike) Schaefer, Karen Asbridge, Roger Ellinger, Dennis (Debora) McMillan, Ronnie (Debbie) McMillan, Ruth McMillan, Kim (Fuzz) Harris, Rhonda (Bill) Bolton, Jim (Sharon) McMillan, Rodney (Vicki) Carroll, Scott (Becky) Carroll, Rusty (Paula) Carroll; 21 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, her twin Evelyn DeRousse, Gladys Haney, Irene Phipps and Dorothy Haney; three brothers, Willard, Roy and John Hockersmith; a beloved daughter-in-law, Erma Lee Ellinger; two grandchildren, Randy Carroll and Nicholas Harris.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jim Norris officiating.

Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
