Aleen Walther, 93, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 22, 1926, in Fruitland, she was one of two daughters born to Edwin and Cora Heider Willa. She was baptized March 7, 1926, and confirmed April 2, 1939, at St. John's United Church of Christ near Jackson.
Aleen was a 1943 graduate of Jackson High School. She then worked at the International Shoe factory in Jackson. She and Albert Walther were married Feb. 24, 1946, at St. John's United Church of Christ, after Albert returned from serving in World War II. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas until transferring to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson in 1954, where they both remained faithful members until their passings. They had been married 69 years when Albert passed away May 1, 2015.
Aleen enjoyed being a room mother while their four sons attended St. Paul Lutheran School. All their married life, she and Albert worked side-by-side in every aspect of their dairy farm north of Jackson. Aleen always had a very large garden and did lots of canning and freezing.
Loving survivors include her sons, Richard (Carol) Walther, Roy (Brenda) Walther, Ralph (Mary) Walther and Ronald (Pam) Walther, all of Jackson; grandchildren, Alisha (Jamie) Curtis, Travis Walther (Shelly Barks), Ryan (Tina) Walther, Jana Walther, Leann (Shannon) Stinson, Jason (Leslie) Walther and Josh (Tricia) Walther, all of Jackson, and Jill (Chad) Lankford of Perryville, Missouri; stepgrandchildren, Shawna, Jade and Rusty; great-grandchildren, Ireland Curtis, Addysen Walther, Jakoata Walther, Jaylie and Drake Walther, Stella, Emmett and Zetta Lankford, and Claire Walther; great-stepgrandson, Trenton Curtis; and sisters-in-law, Nelda McMurtry and Irene Hurst of St Louis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan, Travis, Jason and Josh Walther; Jamie Curtis; Shannon Stinson; and Chad Lankford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
