Alberta J. Fischer, 90, 1211 Sailer Circle, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Oct. 3, 1903, at Cape Girardeau, daughter of John and Rose Zapf Meystedt. On May 29, 1931, she married Arthur M. Fischer at Frohna. He preceded her in death March 2, 1973.
She was a life-long resident of Cape Girardeau and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University, where she earned a degree in home economics.
She taught at Franklin School prior to her marriage and was a substitute teacher for many years afterward. She, her husband and son owned and operated the Fischer and Son Grocery, which opened in 1936. In 1971 they opened Fischer 4-Way, and in 1973 they started Fischer Downtown. She was a bookkeeper and helped in management of the companies.
Survivors include a son, J. Ronald Fischer of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Cathryn McCollum of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Rev. Steven MacDougal will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
