Albert Lawrence "Al" Zember, 88, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 7, 1926, in La Veta, Colorado, to George and Francis Cerbo Zember. He and Virginia "Ginny" Smith were married Dec. 3, 1977, in Gunnison, Colorado.
Al was a 1944 graduate of La Veta High School, and was raised in the Catholic faith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving honorably from Aug. 15, 1944, to Oct. 28, 1946. He was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan, and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Al worked his entire career in the automotive industry, most of which he was district distributing manager with American Motors. In 1990 he and Ginny moved from Burlington, Colorado, to Jackson, where Al actively volunteered at Jackson Senior Center.
Loving survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ginny of Jackson; two children, David Zember of Aurora, Colorado, and Marlene Zember of Centennial, Colorado; four stepchildren, LaWanna Heise of Shawneetown, Cindy Neely of Oak Ridge, Mark Eifert of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Richard Eifert of Harrison, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and his parents.
A private service will be at a later date at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Jackson Senior Center.
Cremation accorded by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
