A.J. BURTON

EAST PRAIRIE -- A.J. "Jay" Burton, 53, of the Gravel Ridge community near East Prairie died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born July 4, 1946, in Cairo, Ill., son of A.J. "Dude" and Jewell Garrett Burton. He married Joyce Dick on Aug. 28, 1963.

He had lived in Mississippi County most of his life and was a retired supervisor for Bunge Grain Elevators.

He was a member of the Gravel Ridge Baptist Church and the Charleston Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jeanine Shankle of Charleston and Julia Burton of Linden, N.J.; and a brother, Gary Burton of Marion, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shelby Chapel with Brother Carl Cox officiating.

Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
