WASHINGTON, Ill. -- Agnes L. Schaefer, 87, of Metamora, Illinois, formerly of Washington, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Snyder Village, surrounded by her loving family.
Agnes was born March 9, 1929, in Oran, Missouri, to Joseph and Caroline Schlosser Blattel. She married Roy L. Schaefer Sr. on July 12, 1952, in Oran. He preceded her in death May 10, 2010.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn A. Schaefer of Peoria, Illinois, Roy L. (LuAnn) Schaefer Jr. of Florence, Indiana, Bettina M. (Randy) Foster of Mapleton, Illinois, Richard J. (Michelle) Schaefer of East Peoria, Illinois, and Anthony M. Schaefer and Paula Mooney, both of Bartonville, Illinois; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Agnes worked as a homemaker and was devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington and spent many years volunteering at the church and school. She gave extensively of her time to the Northern Tazewell Fire Department and Rescue Squad along with Roy over the years. She also served as an election judge for many years.
She loved gardening, cooking, sewing and crocheting. Her kind heart and giving spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Tazewell Rescue Squad or Snyder Village.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, with a recitation of the rosary at 2 p.m. Visitation will continue at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. The Rev. Stephen Willard will officiate. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
