Ace Shumway, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home. He was born Dec. 7, 1923, at Malden, Mo., son of Albert Carl and Florence Blackburn Shumway Sr. He and Margaret Horn were married Feb. 20, 1945, in Denver. Shumway was owner/operator of the 7-11 Convenience Store in Malden. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and American Legion Post 293 in Malden. He was an avid golfer, loved traveling in his Airstream motorhome and was a good storyteller...

Ace Shumway, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Dec. 7, 1923, at Malden, Mo., son of Albert Carl and Florence Blackburn Shumway Sr. He and Margaret Horn were married Feb. 20, 1945, in Denver.

Shumway was owner/operator of the 7-11 Convenience Store in Malden. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and American Legion Post 293 in Malden. He was an avid golfer, loved traveling in his Airstream motorhome and was a good storyteller.

He was a nosegunner on the B-24 Liberator during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Sharon Shumway and Debbie Campbell of Cape Girardeau, Carla (David) Letassy of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a son, Steve (Arsula) Shumway of Madison, Ala.; three grandchildren, Scott Shumway, Brian (Tori) Shumway, Amy Campbell; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Stover and Madison Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Landess Funeral Home in Malden.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Dohogne officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
