CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Local realtor Birdie Rader recently was selected as the "Zonta Woman of Achievement" for 1991 by the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau area.
Since its inception in 1986, this honor has been awarded for outstanding contributions in the areas of career, family, church, community, youth and young career women, women's activities and self-improvement.
Rader entered the real estate field in 1974. Two years later she started her own company. She has consistantly earned top honors for sales and performance in the field.
She served as president of the cape County Board of Realtors in 1980.
In 1984, she was recognized as the top agent in all of Missouri, Illinois and Kansas, posting in excess of $5 million production. She received the 1985 Centurion Award, the highest acknowledgement made by Century 21.
Rader was named top commission agent for the Eastern Outer Broker's Council in 1986. That same year she earned 11 additional awards.
In 1987, she received the Award of Excellence as a member of the Million Dollar Club. In 1988, Rader held the number one position in the President's Cup Division with gross closing sales totaling $3.8 million.
In 1990, she received the President's Cup Award. She was number one in the Top Listing Volume and number one in the Top Gross Closed Commision.
Rader is also active in the community working with the Community Counseling Center, the Area Wide United Way, the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts and Southeast Missouri State University's Copper Dome Society.
She has been affiliated with the Democratic Party and served as committeewoman from Ward I for several years.
Rader is a Delta Delta Delta sorority member and a member of its mother group, Tri Psi. She is also a long-time member of Zonta Club.
A member of First Christian Church since childhood, she is past president of the Christian Women's Fellowship and was the first woman to be selected as chairman of the board for the church.
She and her husband, William S. Rader, have two daughters, Jane Rader DeBoe and Elizabeth Rader. She has one grandchild, William S. DeBoe.
