A Zimmer Radio Group commercial urging people with rough road problems to use a local paving company's services won a best of show award at Thursday night's Tri-State Advertising and Marketing ADDY Award ceremony.
The commercial, called "Involuntary Vibrato," won creator Bryan Young his second Best of Show award since 1999.
"The reason I wrote the Involuntary Vibrato scenario is because I thought that anybody who's been on a country road can identify with that washboard effect you get when you're driving," said Young, creative services director for Zimmer. "It was meant to draw listeners into that and make them want to smooth their humps and bumps" -- a reference to the company's slogan.
About 100 people attended the ceremony on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. Master of ceremonies was John Mehner of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
The People's Choice award went to St. Francis Medical Center for its "Medicine to the Highest Power" commercials.
Other awards were distributed, including citations of excellence, ADDY awards and ADDY of Distinction awards. Top winners have the opportunity to advance to other competitions.
