Zimmer Broadcasting Co., headquartered in Cape Girardeau, has announced the acquisition of WKBQ/KASP from Evergreen Media Corp. in the St. Louis area.

"The acquisition of the station further demonstrates our faith in the future of radio in St. Louis," said Jerry Zimmer, president of Zimmer Broadcasting, which now owns 10 radio stations in Missouri and Illinois, including KIX Country 104 (WKKX-FM) in St. Louis.

The purchase price was announced at $7 million.

"Evergreen Media's strategy since November of 1992 has been to exit the market," said Scott Ginsburg, chief executive officer of Evergreen. "With Zimmer Broadcasting, we are confident that we are leaving the stations and the people who operate them in good hands."

The sale is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

Zimmer Broadcasting owns KZIM-AM and KEZS-FM in Cape Girardeau.
