ZALMA GIRL KILLED IN ACCIDENT

ZALMA -- A 14-year-old Zalma girl was killed and her mother injured in a one-vehicle traffic accident Saturday afternoon in Bollinger County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Sandy Pedigo was killed when the van she was riding in ran off the right side of the road and overturned. The girl was thrown from the vehicle, which landed on top of her.

The eastbound van was driven by the girl's mother, Diane Pedigo, 41, of Zalma.

Diane Pedigo was injured. She was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

The accident occurred at 12:15 p.m. on Route E, two miles from Zalma.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the patrol said.
