JACKSON -- Two junior teams from the Cape Girardeau County Trail Blazers 4-H Club have placed fourth and eighth in state 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl Competition.

The senior team placed fifth in state, and a junior member, Darren Harris, placed fourth for having the most correct answers.

Sharon Harris, club leader, said Horse Quiz Bowl is played with two teams of four and is similar to the television show "High I.Q."

"Since all the questions are on horse knowledge, the members have to be very knowledgeable," she said. "But speed is also important because a member must be the first on the eight to push their monitor button."

The 22 members of the club are from Jackson, Fruitland, Burfordville, Millersville and Gordonville. The club is new, and Harris said the program helps shape tomorrow's leaders.

"Our youth are our future parents, teachers, doctors, scientists and leaders, and if we want a quality future we need to work now to raise quality youth," she said.

Members of the winning quiz bowl teams were: Darren Harris, Kristi McClary, Katy Ivester, Leslie Hanschen, Leslie Sadler, Shawn Hanschen, Brittany Hanschen, Twinkle Ivester, Shawn Peetz, Brandie Wolfenkoehler, Christine Sadler, Jennifer Amann, Shasta Lusk and Jeff Baugher.

The contest was held May 3-4 in Columbia.
