Area schools have the opportunity to honor outstanding students by nominating them for the Prudential Spirit of Community awards.
The nationwide awards recognize young people who are setting examples of good community service.
Area schools can participate in the program by applying by Nov. 30. Winners will receive a $1,000 award and a trip to Washington in May.
Applicants must be between 11 and 18 or in grades 6 through 12 by Nov. 30. The applications must describe their community service work since September 1994. Forms are available through local junior high and high schools.
The community spirit awards are sponsored by the Prudential Insurance Company of America and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
