Two Jackson Middle School students got a nod from the Cape Girardeau City Council on Monday to extend their yellow ribbon project across the city limits.
Columbia Sternickle and Morgan Stout, both students in an exploratory service elective class, said they plan to tie yellow ribbons around AmerenUE utility poles on U.S. 61 from the Jackson train depot to the Auffenberg Auto Park in Cape Girardeau.
They have the ribbon thanks to a $200 donation from the Jackson Board of Aldermen. Now they're looking for volunteers to tie it all.
"We want to show that both communities support our soldiers, whether they support the war or not," Sternickle said.
The seventh-graders said the ribbons will come down when the soldiers come home. To help tie ribbons beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, volunteers should call Sternickle at 204-7645 or Stout at 243-4340. Volunteers will meet at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse in Jackson.
