The Youth, Education, Literacy and Learning YELL for Newspapers grant applications for community literacy programs are available.
Application deadline is Oct. 27, and interested parties should contact Dorothy Klein of the Area Wide United Way, P.O. Box 562, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0562, to receive an application.
Not-for-profit organizations in Jackson, Cape Girardeau and Scott City may apply for the grants, which are used to fund operation or start-up of youth-oriented literacy programs.
Grants are awarded for one year, and applications should include detailed descriptions and documentation of the program.
Applications should also include a description of the target audience, the number of people to be served, total cost and cost breakdown of the program and operational information, such as the starting date of the program.
Grant applications are processed by the United Way.
