The Southeast Missouri Jr. is a newspaper written by kids for kids. The newspapers is published monthly in the regular Southeast Missourian on the last Tuesday of each month. The next issue is Sept. 26.
The goal of the new Junior newspaper is to promote reading and creativity and give children a place to see their work published. All children who have their work printed in the Junior earn a newshound T-shirt.
Parents and teachers may encourage children to write for the newspaper as well as use the publication as a learning tool. The newspaper will come out with newspapers delivered to schools through the YELL Newspapers in Education program and the Southeast Missourian.
Topics that children can write on for the next issue are: Me & my friends; Why vote?; My favorite healthy snacks are ....; This is what we do to be healthy; I'd like to go skydiving because ....; I like (book movie or video) because ....; When someone tries to get me to do something wrong, I would .... Poems, drawings and recipes that kids can make themselves may also be submitted on these topics.
The deadline for the above items are Sept. 19, delivered or mailed to the Southeast Missourian Junior, 301 Broadway/P.O. Box 699, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702-0699.
