Billie Letts, a 1969 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and author of the award-winning novel, "Where the Heart Is," and her husband, Dennis Letts, who formerly taught English at Southeast, will present the Common Hour program Oct. 23 at the university.

Both have written for stage and screen, and Dennis is a professional stage, motion picture and television actor. The two will present a program titled "Screenplays: From Script to Screen." The Common Hour is scheduled for noon to 1:15 p.m. in Crisp Hall Auditorium and is part of Homecoming '96 events.

In addition to the Common Hour program, Billie Letts will read from her novel and discuss her writing at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the University Center Ballroom in the first of a proposed series of "Alumni Forums," which will showcase the accomplishments of Southeast graduates. The evening program also is being sponsored by the English department. A reception will follow in the University Center Ballroom.

Billie Letts also will sign books from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 25 at Barnes & Noble bookstore, 3025 William.
