The second annual Heartland Writers Conference will be held Aug. 10 at the Southeast Missouri State University Center.
The conference focuses on the nuts and bolts of getting published in popular fiction and non-fiction for amateur and professional authors.
Editors and agents representing various publishing companies will be on hand to meet with authors. Some of the publishing companies that will be represented are: Zebra Books, Cherry Weiner Literary Agency, Harper Paperbacks, Book Creations, Inc. and Sharon Jarvis Literary Agency.
Also, published authors will give workshops on the how-to's of writing fiction and non-fiction. Workshops topics include "From Page One to Publication," "The Non-Fiction Markets," "Writing the Synopsis," "Developing the Series," "Team Writing" and "Get Inspired."
"Get Inspired" will be given by Sikeston resident Robert Vaughn, published author of more than 250 books including romances, westerns and mainstream novels.
Last year, about 150 writers from across the Midwest attended the conference.
Advance registration fee (before Aug. 2) is $55 and includes workshops, hospitality room, guaranteed editor or agent appointment and cocktail party. Walk-in registration is also available on the day of the conference.
