The World Day of Prayer service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., Friday at Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in 1204 Brandom St., Jackson. World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christians to come together and observe a common day of prayer. The day was founded on the idea that prayer and action are inseparable in serving God. The theme is, ""I was a stranger and you welcomed me," taken from Jesus' message in the Bible to welcome and serve the "the least of these." The event is free to attend and a free will offering will be taken to support families around the world who are victims of poverty, violence and injustice.
