Southeast Missouri State University is offering a series of workshops introducing basic computer skills.

The series is called "Mini Workshops for Busy People" and will teach Windows 95, Office 97, Outlook, Web Page Development and Business Writing Basics.

Regular semester classes have been separated into smaller units so people can learn just the things they need to get the job done. Individuals may sign up for as few or as many classes as needed.

Classes cost $75 for a six-hour course or $40 for a three-hour course. If two three-hour courses are taken, the cost is $75.

Computer classes are held in one of the new, high-tech labs in the Dempster Hall of Business at Southeast Missouri State University. Parking is available near the building.

Classes offered:

Introduction to computers, a non-technical introduction to the basic features of using computers. Sept. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. or Oct. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Introduction to Windows 95, a non technical introduction to the basic features of Windows 95. Sept. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. or Oct. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Windows 95 for Users, teaches how to use Windows Explorer, WordPad, and how to customize the start and program menus. Sept. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. or Oct. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, designed for the experienced Windows user who needs to learn the differences between the two programs. Sept. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. or Nov. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Beginning Web Page Development, teaches how to design Web pages with FrontPage Editor. Prerequisite is any Windows 95 class. Oct. 13 and 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Introduction to Word for Office 97, a basic introduction to word processing. Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Introduction to Excel for Office 97, a basic introduction to creating, saving and printing spreadsheets in Windows. Oct. 19 and 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Making Presentations with PowerPoint for Office 97, learn to made professional documents for overhead projectors, on-screen presentations or 35mm slides. Oct. 27 and 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Introduction of Access for Office 97, learn to create and edit databases, perform queries and create simple reports. Nov. 2 and 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Introduction to Outlook, topics include sending, receiving and organizing e-mail, scheduling meetings and sharing Outlook data with other Office 97 applications. Nov. 10 and 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Business Writing Basics Punctuation and Grammar, instruction in the basic rules with an emphasis on grammar and word usage. This is a seminar-style class. No computer skills are needed. Nov. 17 and 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.
