A 45-year-old mother was charged Friday with assault for striking a 6-year-old girl with her truck while driving drunk.
Christine G. Trierweiler, of 6575 County Road 324 in Jackson, was charged with class C second-degree felony assault, two counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and having no insurance.
She was issued a $7,500 bond for the charges, according to police spokesman Jason Selzer.
Trierweiler was intoxicated in the Thursday night accident, and her 7-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter were in the truck with her at the time, he said.
The accident occurred at 5:25 p.m. on southbound Sprigg Street about 113 feet from Locust Street, Selzer said.
The girl was attempting to cross from the west side of the street when she was struck by the front right side and mirror of the 1994 Ford F-250, he said.
Witnesses reported that at the time of the accident, the girl was with her older brother, who had attempted to stop her from going into the street.
The girl was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center for injuries to her legs, head and face, none of which was considered life-threatening, Selzer said.
A Saint Francis nursing supervisor declined to comment on whether the girl was still hospitalized.
