An Oran, Mo., woman told police she suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach Tuesday night while sitting in her sports car in the parking lot of a Cape Girardeau restaurant.

Police responded to a reported shooting at 7:07 p.m. at Chinatown Buffet, 213 S. Kings­highway, where they spoke with the 37-year-old victim.

She told officers she'd been sitting her Mazda Miata, parked in the lot facing south, and her 12-year-old dauhgter sat in the passenger seat, when they heard a loud "pop," said Cpl. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the police department.

"She said it sounded like fireworks, but they couldn't tell where it was coming from," Selzer said.

Feeling a sharp pain in her stomach, the woman glanced down and saw her midsection was bleeding, Selzer said.

Officers recovered a .22-caliber bullet from the floorboard of the car and found a bullet hole in the roof of the vehicle.

No one is in custody for the shooting and police have no suspects at this time, Selzer said.
