A Cape Girardeau woman was injured seriously Monday after being shot in the head during an apparent drive-by shooting in front of 401 S. Hanover St., according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
Sgt. Adam Glueck, a spokesman for the department, said police were sent to the residence at 2:46 p.m. The victim was sitting on the porch at the time of the shooting, he said.
At the scene, Lt. Rodney Barker said the victim was with two other women when shots were fired from a northbound vehicle occupied by "multiple people."
The victim, who has not yet been named, was the only person injured during the shooting.
The woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she remained with a "serious injury" as of Monday evening, Glueck said.
Several shots were fired from the vehicle, striking the victim, Glueck said.
About a dozen shell casings were marked on the street by police.
Descriptions of the suspect vehicle differ, Glueck said.
According to one report, it was a gold SUV, he said, while another report claimed it was a maroon SUV.
There is no description of the suspect, Glueck said.
The shooting is being investigated by Cape Girardeau Police and the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad.
Anyone with information is asked to call the department at its business line, 335-6621, or its anonymous line, 339-6313.
