The Cape Girardeau Fire Department Responded To A Vehicle Crash Early Saturday That Injured One Person.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a vehicle crash early Saturday that injured one person and resulted in citations, including a DWI charge.

At 12:09 a.m. Saturday, fire personnel and police responded to a flipped vehicle on Ferguson Drive near Big Bend Road in Cape Girardeau.

Two people were in a Dodge pickup truck when the vehicle flipped, throwing the driver from the vehicle, fire battalion chief Fred Vincel reported.

Police records later identified the driver as Jakob Payne of Cape Girardeau. He was cited by police for failure to yield to emergency vehicles, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway and driving while intoxicated.

A woman passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed by firefighters.

Vincel said the driver appeared fine and was speaking with police when they arrived, but a passenger was transported to a local hospital.

Vincel could not confirm the cause of the accident, but two utility poles were broken during the crash.
