KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling crack cocaine out of a day care center at her home.
Valeriece D. Ealom, 36, was sentenced Friday, U.S. Attorney Todd P. Graves said.
Ealom pleaded guilty in September to participating in a conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine. Some of the cocaine was found in her home while children were there under her care, Graves said.
Prosecutors said police found two loaded guns and crack cocaine within reach of the seven or eight children at the day care at Ealom's home when she was arrested.
Two other defendants also have pleaded guilty.
Clifford E. Dorsey, 44, of Kansas City, pleaded guilty in September to participating in a conspiracy to distribute powder cocaine. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison without parole and could receive a maximum sentence of life in prison. His sentencing date has not been set.
Another defendant, Megashia C. Jackson, 28, of Kansas City, also faces sentencing after completion of a presentence investigation. She was found in possession of about 1,100 grams of cocaine, authorities said.
She was previously sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to being in possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. She could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in federal prison and a fine of as much as $250,000.
Police have said Dorsey and Jackson were supplying Ealom with drugs but were not connected to the day care.
