SIKESTON -- A Fisk woman is dead after a two-car accident Monday on Interstate 57 about 6 miles east of Sikeston.

Dorothy Gould, 71, was pronounced dead on arrival after being transported by helicopter to Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Gould was southbound when she apparently became disoriented and attempted to turn around at a prohibited crossing.

The patrol said Gould made a left turn from the driving lane into the path of a dumptruck driven by Thomas Masterson of Scott City. The accident occurred at about 8:05 a.m.

Ruth Long, 76, a passenger in the Gould vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta with moderate injuries. Masterson was uninjured.
